The sauna revolution is upon us… Brits are (finally) embracing our Nordic neighbours’ way of life, with wild saunas now springing up across the UK. In spas, saunas have become the go-to thermal experience, too - especially those with picture windows that afford awe-inspiring views while you toast. Scarlet Spy rounds up the best spa saunas with a view.
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, Lake Windermere

Low Wood Bay is situated on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park; the spa is built into a hillside overlooking the lake. Perched at the top of a fell, the outdoor Fellside View Sauna has (arguably) one of the best vistas of any sauna in the UK (it’s the first in the country to be built at varying levels, using slate steps). Complete with slate flooring and warmed by a traditional log burner, the huge panoramic windows offer more of those magnificent watery views across Lake Windermere to the Lakeland fells and beyond.
Aqua Sana Forest Spa, Sherwood Forest

Aqua Sana Forest Spa, Sherwood Forest, is located amongst forest pines in Nottinghamshire. Use the map (there’s a whopping 25 experiences here) to locate the Treetop Nesting zone - a forest-themed relaxation area with Forest Immersion experiences and a quiet meditation sanctuary - and take the wooden stairs from here to enter the Treetop Sauna. This large wooden cabin is perched high in the trees, offering breathtaking views of the forest below through floor-to-ceiling windows. Find your spot, lie back and listen to birdsong and the calming rustle of trees. Cool down afterwards on the Forest Terrace or make a beeline for the Forest Glade - one of our favourites.
Lodore Falls, The Lake District

Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa is situated in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley with pinch-me views over Derwentwater and the Catbells Mountain Range. Beyond the 18 luxury spa bedrooms, five treatment rooms, horseshoe-shaped thermal suite and the show-stopping 16-metre infinity edge vitality pool (possibly the best selfie spot in the whole Lake District) you’ll find the deliciously hot Finnish Sauna. The temperature sits around 85.C with low humidity and authentic, dry heat to relax muscles and boost circulation. The view from the giant picture window will leave you speechless. Cool off by pulling the open-air cold drench bucket over your head - contrast therapy at its best.
Imperia Spa at Gleddoch, Renfrewshire, Scotland

The newly refurbished Imperia Spa - crowned Best New Spa at the Good Spa Guide Awards 2025 - is one for the bucket list. The spa is home to a sleek and moody gold and obsidian-black indoor pool, a Pink Himalayan salt sauna, aroma steam, hydrotherapy pool and Brass Monkey cold plunge, as well as one of the largest outdoor saunas in the UK. The 45-square-metre sauna can be found beside the outdoor hydrotherapy pool; soak in the epic panoramic views of the Clyde Estuary and Ben Lomond beyond, through floor-to-ceiling glass.
The Spa at Manor House (Alsager), East Cheshire

Manor House (Alsager) is all about the English country spa garden, so it’s no surprise that the saunas come complete with rolling countryside views. Like it hot and toasty? Make a beeline for the Finnish Sauna in the Secret Garden, where you can bask in an intense 80°C heat, flanked by a Himalayan salt wall and characterful reclaimed brickwork. Cool off in the cold plunge bath. Prefer a gentler glow? The Herbal Sauna in the Potting Shed is heated to a soothing 65-70°C and delicately infused with lavender; theatre-style seating offers front-row views of lush herbal planters.
Fairmont St Andrews – Wild Scottish Sauna

Fairmont St Andrews has teamed up with Wild Scottish Sauna for a collaboration you won’t want to miss. Take a chauffeur-driven taxi from the hotel to West Beach to visit one of Wild Scottish Sauna’s newest hot boxes, positioned overlooking the two-mile stretch of golden sands, made famous for its role in Chariots of Fire. After tiptoeing into the skin-prickingly cold North Sea - brave a shoulder dunk – before retreating to the sauna on a euphoric high. Heated to a toasty 90 degrees, frozen appendages will thaw out in no time. Rinse and repeat twice more for optimal benefits.
