The Spa at Coworth Park

An exquisitely designed spa with a strong focus on wellness sunk into acres of landscaped gardens in affluent Ascot (Scarlet Spy)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The countryside cousin of The Dorchester, Coworth Park is a manor house estate sprawling 240 acres of Berkshire parkland; from the moment you turn off the A30 and wind down the private drive, the pace of the outside world begins to dissolve. The setting is exceptional: Carol Peace sculptures grace the lawns, a sunken pond reflects the sky and a wildflower meadow stretches beyond the tree line.

The spa itself is a purpose-built eco structure that earns its place in the landscape rather than imposing upon it. Herb gardens line the rooftop, floor-to-ceiling windows frame the grounds and the architecture feels deliberate. Parking is complimentary.

WHAT'S ON OFFER?

Receptionist Katie greeted us warmly and settled us into the spa. The light-filled reception sets the tone nicely: flowers and botanical motifs from the estate weave through the design, décor and artwork, while a curated selection of products from ishga, Natura Bissé, Wildsmith and Dr Seaweed serve to tempt spa goers.

A standout detail: pre-visit questionnaires ask for your robe and slipper sizes - open your allocated locker and you’ll find everything personalised and waiting. Full-size lockers; leather seating; private changing cubicles; and a separate vanity area with full-length mirrors, Dyson hairdryers, GHD straighteners and Dorchester own-brand toiletries complete the picture.

The poolside thermal suite, newly expanded in June 2025, is in immaculate condition. An 18-metre swimming pool with underwater sound provides the centrepiece, bordered by eight paired daybeds with deep mattresses that invite serious horizontal time. The Finnish Sauna was super-toasty at 90.C with a backdrop of the hotel's wild flower meadow; the curved Citrine-lined steam room - complete with crystal - was a thing of beauty. Get your contrast therapy fix in the new snow room, with its snow shower and ice fountain.

On warmer days, the full-length glass doors open out to a sun terrace framed by lavender bushes, creating a seamless inside-outside flow.

For those seeking movement, the fitness suite has been recently expanded and is the first UK hotel to showcase the Technogym Luxury Artis range in champagne hues

TELL US ABOUT THE TREATMENTS

We were on a Whispers of Wellness Spa Day (from £350 per person) and tried a Himalayan Quartz Ritual (90 minutes) followed by a Satori Wellness Lounger Relaxation Experience (30 minutes, £50).

My therapist, Kourtney, met me in Awaken - the relaxation room - and led me through to one of nine spacious treatment rooms. After explaining the treatment and discussing any concerns, she left me to slip out of my robe and settle onto the MLX Quartz heated bed - a first for this Spa Spy.

Returning, Kourtney skilfully moulded the quartz sand around my body to cocoon it, while the sound of ocean waves filled the room. The strike of a sound bowl signified the beginning of the welcome ritual, its vibrations travelling through the bed beneath me. A soothing foot cleanse, three deep inhalations and a calming guided meditation – transporting me through Coworth’s flower meadow – followed.

The head-toe-ritual commenced with an invigorating back exfoliation, removed with a heated cloth before flowing into a leg massage. Next, a back massage using long, slow, soothing strokes. Turning on to my front, Kourtney covered my eyes with a cooling quartz mask and continued the massage on the front of my legs, before moving onto the facial element.

Kourtney then tilted the bed to encourage blood to flow to my head to promote hair growth and knelt to perform a heavenly pressure point scalp massage using nourishing oils.

Post-treatment, Kourtney led me to the Calm Room, home to four Satori Relaxation Loungers. Here, I found my Spa Partner blissfully tucked up beneath a blanket, headphones and eye mask in place, after her Hebridean Sound Treatment (90 minutes, £230). I settled beside her for a 30-minute session – apparently the equivalent of two hours’ restorative sleep.

FOOD FACTS

You can dine in en-robe in the Spa Cafe, just a short stroll from the changing rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over mature trees, flooding the space with natural light; natural décor is paired with pops of flowers and views of the sculptures by Carol Peace.

The menu offers a choice of salads and small plates, sandwiches and something sweet, alongside freshly pressed juices, wine, Champagne, soft drinks and sparkling tea. A welcome drink of freshly pressed watermelon juice set an immediate high bar.

For mains we opted for the Heritage Beetroot Salad with bitter leaves, walnuts and creamy goats’ cheese; our spa partner went for the smoked Salmon with crème fraiche and watercress.

A standout was the mango and pineapple cheesecake with lime — beautifully executed and a worthy final food flourish.

WE LOVED

Our treatment was an imaginative, full-sensory experience from a highly skilled therapist. The quartz bed was something completely different.

The new thermal suite:
the Citrine-lined steam room and Finnish sauna with meadow views are among the most beautiful thermal spaces we have encountered.

The estate itself:
240 acres of parkland, sculpture, wildflower meadow and lavender terrace mean the spa and its grounds form a complete, restorative world.

WHAT BUBBLE RATING DID YOU AWARD THIS SPA?
